Get Down on Your Knees
The most important aspect of cat photography is to level with the cats. And that means to get down on your knees and even on your belly. The other way to do it is of course to lift the cat up.

To elaborate on that, there are two aspects I want to emphesize. The cats face is the first, interesting photos are often about the face. And the focus of the cat is often directed towards the ground. Secondly, the background often will be better and more varied with tha camera leveled with the cats.

About this photo: The camera is placed on a book on the floor with a preset focus. I have used two flashes, one bare infront and above the cats functioning as a key light. The other flash ,the fill, is bounced in a white umbrella that stands to the right of the cats. I am trying to manouver the cats with a feather toy towards the pre set focus range area with one hand and triggering the camera shutter via the remote with the other. This approach nessecarily leads to a lot of out of focus photos.
